Shakespeare Sunday | 040318

A wintery scene with two houses snowed in nearly to their roofs, with an ornate frame and text that reads "Thou knowest, winter tames man, woman, and beast" from Taming of the Shew

“Thou knowest, winter tames man, woman, and beast” from Taming of the Shew by Shakespeare.

You’re reading this as we now emerging from the “Beast from the East”- after it hit Europe, the UK, and Ireland around Thursday. To be fair it is still winter after all at least for a few more weeks. I’m actually writing this a week ahead of time, looking at the forecast we’re not going to have a bad time of it in Cork. Possibly a dusting of snow (that never sticks) and some minus temperatures, it’ll be like it was in early January!

I do like Taming of the Shrew especially in the BBC’s Retold studded with amazing actresses and actors and comedians. It’s well worth a watch- it even got an 8.3/10 on IMDB. I think the only way to watch it now, as it was released back in 2005, is to buy the DVD set on Amazon. They have a wonderful version of MacBeth starring James MacAvoy as MacBeth- set in the world of celebrity chefs and restaurants rather than the monarchy of Scotland.
