“Goals transform a random walk into a chase” Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.
Having goals really does change your perspective on something. It motivates. It gives measurable points. The thing is they don’t have to be concrete. They can be as simple as “For this week I’m going to get off the bus a stop early, and walk that it further”. Or “I’m going to finish this course by the end of the year.”. Simple declarations of an aim and a time frame.
I’ve tried all sorts of ways to encourage me to complete and keep up with goals. From Trello boards, to Habitica. They really don’t seem to do it for me. Even little notices on my phone to tell me to do something. Apparently, I say this in air quotes, if you do something for 30 it does become habitual. Though, is this like when you take a placebo- knowing it’s a placebo? None of it has really stuck for me.
